What is Modern Slavery?

Modern slavery involves people being trafficked into or around a country and being forced to illegally work against their will.  There are several categories of modern slavery including forced labour, forced criminality, domestic servitude and sexual exploitation.

The Global Slavery Index estimates that there were 122,000 people living in modern slavery in the United Kingdom (UK) on any given day in 2022.
